Telus Banff Fellowship Program

Deadline: April 21, 2017

Accepting applications starting March 7, 2017

TELUS Optik Local provides funding and training to filmmakers in British Columbia and Alberta to support compelling original storytelling. We support projects that reflect a diversity of voices, innovative ideas, alternative views, and feature local places and events in arts, culture, education and sport. The TELUS Banff Fellowship program is just one of the ways we provide access to training and production support for members of the community in BC and Alberta.

The TELUS Banff Fellowship Program is intended to encourage professional development in digital production by enabling emerging creative talent, including producers, writers and directors, to attend the BANFF World Media Festival. Fellowships are not intended for established professionals; they are intended for emerging or mid-level candidates. Applicants with demonstrated interest or experience in making content for local television will be given special consideration.

The TELUS Banff fellowship program will include the following:

  • A full festival registration, including admission to all seminars, workshops, feature interviews and screenings plus all official festival social events;
  • 3 nights’ accommodation at the Banff Ptarmigan Inn or similar ;
  • Reasonable travel costs; and
  • A reception with TELUS and other industry executives at Banff.

Meals and all other costs of attending the festival are the responsibility of the fellowship recipient.

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants residing in British Columbia or Alberta. Paired applications, or applications from several people connected with the same project or company, can only be considered on an individual basis. Each application will be judged according to the merits of the submitted materials, the applicant’s strategy for maximizing opportunities at Banff, and his or her financial need. Up to six fellowships will be awarded. Final decisions are at the sole discretion of TELUS.

All correspondence and inquiries regarding the TELUS Banff Fellowship Program should be addressed to the BANFF World Media Festival, which is responsible for the administration and adjudication of the fellowship. The Application Form must be completed and submitted online no later than 5pm (EST) on Friday, April 21, 2017. Successful applicants will be notified no later than May 10, 2017.
