WGA Award-winner Steve Blackman is currently the showrunner, creator, writer and executive producer of the critically acclaimed Netflix show, The Umbrella Academy, which is an adaption of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s comic book series of the same name. The show revolves around estranged siblings with extraordinary powers, who reunite following their father’s death and uncover shocking family secrets along with a looming threat to humanity, starring Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, and David Castañeda, among others. The fan favorite series was watched by 45 million households in its first four weeks of release and was ranked third on the list of Netflix’s most popular series releases of 2019, which was one of only three series to crack Netflix’s overall Top 10 list of its most popular 2019 releases. Blackman is returning as showrunner, writer and executive producer for season 2, which will air July 31, 2020.
Recently, Blackman signed a multi-year deal with Netflix, where he will write and produce other series and projects exclusively for Netflix through his production company, Borderline Entertainment.
Blackman was nominated for a Producers Guild Award and Emmy Award for the critically acclaimed series FARGO, which he wrote and co-executive produced. Additional credits include Altered Carbon, Legion, The Outsiders, Private Practise and NYPD Blue.
