Sarah Asante joined the BBC Comedy team as Development and Digital Content Editor in 2015. Sarah was promoted to Commissioning Editor in2018 - providing editorial oversight on global shortform content. As Comm Ed, Sarah has been developing a slate of exciting comedy projects from a diverse array of established and emerging content makers, delivering short form series and long form sketch and sitcom ideas for BBC Two and Three. 

Recent commissions include the cult hit sketch show FAMALAM, comedy pilots Behind the Filter, written by Phoebe Walsh and Fully Blown produced by Studio 71 and shortform series Coconut staring Humza Arshad, one of YouTube’s Creators for Change. Across that time she has also commissioned over 25 x 3 min ‘Life Lesson’ shorts from an array of emerging comedy stars playing now on BBC Three on YouTube. 

Before joining the BBC Comedy team, Sarah was in the scripted acquisitions at Fox International Channels and the commissioning team at Scripps Networks.  Further experience across a decade includes Channel 4 Entertainment, ITV factual and Channel 4 Specialist Factual in addition to content development roles at Two Four Broadcast and Pulse films.

With an eye on the future, Sarah is currently curating a wide selection of new projects for the ‘Comedy Threesomes’ a new piloting strand for emerging On/Off screen talent on BBC Three.
