As head of Ubisoft Film & Television, Jason Altman leads the division in the adaptation, development and production of Ubisoft’s award-winning games, as well as original stories set in the world, culture and community of gaming for film and television.
When Altman first joined Ubisoft Film & Television, the division’s mandate was focused solely on adaptation of existing IP. However, with a background that included 14 years of leading video game teams at Activision and Ubisoft, he saw another opportunity – the creation of original content steeped in gaming culture. The first product is MYTHIC QUEST: RAVEN’S BANQUET, which debuted on Apple TV+ in February 2020 to critical acclaim and was picked up for a second season prior it its debut. The originals approach marked a first for both the company and the gaming industry, and is now a key pillar in Ubisoft’s strategy as it looks to expand its footprint in entertainment.
Ubisoft Film & Television is now working on a slate of original projects for film and TV, as well as large-scale IP adaptations including THE DIVISION, which landed at Netflix in June 2019. The company also just wrapped production on its first independent feature film, WEREWOLVES WITHIN, which was a product of the company’s Women’s Film & Television fellowship which aims to bring female or non-binary voices into the IP adaptation and genre space. Altman remains actively involved in the fellowship as a mentor.
Other projects Jason currently oversees include RABBIDS at Lionsgate and JUST DANCE at Sony’s Screen Gems. Projects in development include an original romantic comedy set in the video game space, another project from the fellowship, among others.
