Mina Shum has written and directed award-winning films that have premiered at Sundance, Toronto, and Berlin. Her features are Double Happiness (94), which won Best Canadian Feature at TIFF, and Best First Feature at Berlin and an audience award at Torino; Drive, She Said (97); Long Life, Happiness & Prosperity (02); Ninth Floor (15); and Meditation Park (17), which won TIFF Film Circuit’s People’s Choice Award and CAAMFest’s Audience Award. Shum’s other creative ventures include short films, essays, installations and immersive theatre. In 2020, Shum was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts from Simon Fraser University. Shum has a BA in Theatre Studies and a Diploma in Film Production from the University of British Columbia. In 2021, Shum was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Direction in a Drama Series.
