George Stroumboulopoulos

Television & Radio Personality

A globally recognized broadcaster, producer, interviewer, writer, entrepreneur and cultural figure, George Stroumboulopoulos has built a career at the intersection of culture, music, and storytelling.

From the chaos of a music video channel to the Canadian public broadcaster to reaching listeners around the world, he has spent more than three decades making connections.

He hosted and produced the iconic programs The Hour and George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, fronted MuchMusic’s groundbreaking culture series The New Music, hosted an interview series for CNN, anchored the iconic Hockey Night in Canada and brought music and stories to millions on Apple Music.

Over the years, George has conducted more than 10,000 interviews with artists, activists, athletes, politicians, Nobel laureates, cultural disruptors, and world leaders — from King Charles III and Oprah Winfrey to June Callwood, U2, Michael J. Fox, Led Zeppelin, Maya Angelou and Wayne Gretzky.

Outside of broadcasting, George has long been committed to humanitarian and social justice work. He serves as Canada’s first Ambassador Against Hunger for the United Nations World Food Programme and has supported global initiatives focused on hunger, climate, mental health, conflict zones, and human rights in countries such as Haiti, Pakistan, Sudan, Lebanon, and Syria. His charitable and advocacy work has included partnerships with Amnesty International, World Wildlife Fund, Innocence Canada, Michael J. Fox Foundation, Music Heals, David Suzuki Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund. He also serves on the Canadian board of Artists for Peace and Justice and established the George Stroumboulopoulos Music Therapy Scholarship to support music therapy education in Canada.

George is a Member of the Order of Canada and has received numerous honours throughout his career, including multiple Canadian Screen Awards and Gemini Awards, an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Calgary, and an honorary fellowship from the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.

And as always goes by Strummer’s Law: No input. No output.

At the Banff Media Festival, we met with Netflix and took a ride up Sulphur Mountain on the gondola. That’s where we made the pitch.
