EVP, Alternative Development

Universal Television Alternative Studio

Monica Rodman is Executive Vice President of Alternative Programming at Universal Television Alternative Studio (UTAS), a division of Universal Studio Group. In this role, she oversees series development and current programming across all platforms and works closely with the studio's roster of producing partners, including Tina Fey, Jordan Peele, Dick Wolf, Jimmy Fallon and Amy Poehler. She reports directly to Toby Gorman, President of UTAS.

Rodman joined the studio in 2015 and has been instrumental in the development of hit unscripted shows and formats, including Destination X, hosted by Jeffrey Dean Morgan on NBC and Rob Brydon for BBC and Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions' inaugural documentary series, High Horse: The Black Cowboy. The Americas, a natural history show narrated by Tom Hanks with music by Hans Zimmer, recently launched to become the most-watched nature doc on linear in more than 15 years. The studio also creates hit formats that are replicated worldwide, such as the Emmy Award-winning and longtime NBC favorite Hollywood Game Night, which has been remade in 25 territories; The Wall, which has been sold into 29 territories; and the Emmy-nominated music and comedy event series That's My Jam, which has options in over a dozen territories.

Rodman also shepherded a groundbreaking development initiative for UTAS known as The Braintrust, which acts as an adjunct creative asset, connecting producers and developers from across the industry to foster emerging talent and help take ideas across the finish line. She also heads Diversity Unscripted, a program that helps diverse showrunners connect with business leaders across NBCUniversal, providing producers with direct access to network executives and laying the groundwork for an unprecedented talent feeder system within the organization.

Prior to joining UTAS, Rodman was an Emmy® Award-nominated producer on the hit courtroom program Judge Judy, the NBC reality series Fashion Star, and The Celebrity Apprentice, among other unscripted shows.

Rodman is based in Los Angeles and has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Oregon.
