Speaker Barbara Hager
Barbara Todd Hager (Métis/Cree) is a documentary producer, director and writer. She is the creator of four television series including 1491: The Untold Story of the Americas Before Columbus (APTN, ZDFE), Down2Earth (APTN), and All Our Relations II (APTN). 1491 won the 2018 Leo Award for ‘Best Documentary Series’, ‘Best Screenwriting’, and ‘Best Music Composition’.
Barbara is the director of five documentaries including; Leaving Beringia (TELUS Independent), Truth Dance and Reconciliation (CBC, APTN), and Forbidden Music (Knowledge). She is currently directing and co-producing the feature documentary Tomson Highway: Permanent Astonishment (CBC, APTN) with White Pine Pictures.
Barbara mentors emerging filmmakers through Telus Storyhive, and the Whistler Film Festival’s ‘Indigenous Film Fellowship’ program. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Whistler Film Festival, the Victoria Film Festival, DOC Canada, and the Alliance of Aboriginal Media Professionals. Crossing Gabriel is her first scripted drama.
