Get pumped for a special BANFF edition of HOT PILOT PARTY! One HOT, unproduced Canadian half-hour comedy pilot will be chosen for a special live table read at the festival featuring top tier talent.

Following a nationwide call for entry, we’re looking for the top 5 unproduced comedy pilots in Canada. A single script will be chosen for the live table read at BANFF, and 4 additional scripts will have the opportunity to be featured at the festival and receive international trade press, plus a complimentary pass to the Banff World Media Festival.
About HPP: Created by writer/actors Nadine Bhabha and Julian De Zotti and casting director, Hannah Antaki, HOT PILOT PARTY began in 2024 as a way to gather the Toronto Film and TV community and celebrate some Canadian talent! They assembled Toronto’s finest to read two unproduced comedy pilot scripts in front of a live audience, and amassed over 200 artists and community-members to listen, laugh, and libate. The inaugural event took place at the Theatre Centre in Toronto, with an all-star cast that included Eric McCormack, Jess Salgueiro, Amanda Brugel, Ennis Esmer and so many more!
ENTRY GUIDELINES:
- The writer must be a Canadian Citizen. If the writer is NOT a Canadian Citizen the script will not be accepted for consideration
- The writer must own the IP
- The script must be a comedy pilot
- The script must be under 40 pages (including title page, smarties)
- The script cannot have been previously produced or optioned by a production company, studio, broadcaster or streamer
- Scripts must be submitted in pdf files only
- You must fill out the submission form below and submit the script by the deadline February 14, 2025
The selected script will be read live at the Hot Pilot Party event (date TBD) at the Banff World Media Festival, (Sunday June 8 - Wednesday June 11 2025) at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Alberta.
The writer of the script chosen to be read at BANFF will receive:
- One complimentary pass to the 2025 Banff World Media Festival
- 2 (two) nights hotel accommodation in the town of Banff (airfare is not included)
- $300 CDN travel stipend to put toward costs associated with attending BANFF in person

1. Rights and Warranties By submitting a project or script for the Hot Pilot Party (HPP) at the Banff World Media Festival (BANFF), the Entrant represents and warrants that they hold all necessary rights, titles, and interests in and to the intellectual property underlying the Film/TV project script (the “Project”) and that the chain of title is complete, free from liens, claims, or encumbrances. This includes, but is not limited to, all rights to the script, story, characters, and any underlying materials used in the creation of the Project. Upon request, the Entrant agrees to provide documentation evidencing such chain of title, including, but not limited to, option agreements, assignments, copyright registrations, and any other relevant agreements. False representations or failures to provide requested documentation may result in disqualification or legal liability. |
2. Retention of Rights and Non-Entitlement to Compensation or Credit The Banff World Media Festival (BANFF), The Banff Television Festival Foundation, Hot Pilot Party (HPP), and Brunico Communications Ltd. (Brunico), collectively referred to as “the Organizers,” acknowledge and agree that all intellectual property rights, including but not limited to copyrights, trademarks, and other proprietary rights, in any Project presented, read, or submitted for consideration shall remain solely and exclusively with the original author(s) or copyright holder(s) (the “Author”). The Organizers shall not acquire, claim, or assert any ownership, rights, or interest in any submitted script or Project by virtue of its presentation or reading at the Festival. Furthermore, the Organizers shall not be entitled to any monetary compensation, royalties, credit, or any other financial or non-financial benefit derived from any submitted script or Project, its presentation, or any subsequent use or exploitation by the Author or third parties. This clause does not restrict the Organizers from documenting or publicizing Festival activities, including the presentation or reading of the Project, provided such documentation or publicity does not imply ownership, authorship, or endorsement. |
3. No Fees or Monetary Reward The Entrant acknowledges and agrees that the Organizers shall not be obligated to pay any fees, royalties, monetary rewards, or other compensation to the Entrant, Author(s), or any third party for any Project or script submitted for consideration, presented, or read at the Festival. This includes, but is not limited to, fees for participation in the Festival, travel or accommodation expenses beyond those outlined above, and any subsequent use or exploitation of the Project by the Entrant or third parties. |
4. Indemnification The Entrant shall indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Organizers, their employees, affiliates, assignees, directors, officers, and licensees from any and all claims, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorney fees and costs of litigation) arising out of or related to the Project, including but not limited to:

5. Permission for Exhibition By submitting a project or script for the BANFF Hot Pilot Party Table Read, the Entrant grants the Organizers a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to exhibit the Project during a live table read at the 2025 Banff World Media Festival. The Entrant also grants permission to record the table read and to telecast, stream, or webcast such presentation in any format on any platform, provided it is used solely for promotional or archival purposes. This license does not authorize commercial exploitation of the Project without the Entrant’s prior written consent. |
6. Casting and Presentation The Entrant acknowledges and agrees that all decisions regarding the casting, direction, and production of the script for presentation at the Banff World Media Festival (BANFF), including the Hot Pilot Party (HPP), shall be made solely by the Organizers. The Entrant shall have no right to approve or participate in the selection of cast members, the direction of the table read, or any other production-related decisions. The Organizers retain full creative control over the manner in which the script is presented at the Festival. |
7. Public Sharing of Information: The Organizers may publicly share the Project name, logline, and the names of the writer(s), agency, and company associated with the selected script, including any script designated as one of the “Top 5” projects, in social media, digital communications, or print media. The Organizers agree not to share the full script, excerpts, or detailed synopses with third parties without prior written consent from the Entrant. |
8. Publicity/Promotions and Marketing By accepting to participate in the Hot Pilot Party (HPP) , you are giving consent to the BANFF World Media Festival (BANFF) and Brunico Communications Ltd. (Brunico) to have the non-exclusive right to display your name, headshot (image), company name, company email, and approved biographical material, the right to share the selected Project(s) name, logline, and the names of the writer(s), agency, and company associated with the selected script for use in marketing or promotion. This includes, but is not limited to, press releases, social media, e-blasts, and advertising. Additionally, audio/visual recordings of the HPP at BANFF table read and images, including, but not limited to; photographs, screen grabs, website materials, social media assets may also be used in the promotion of HPP and BANFF in perpetuity provided such use is limited to the promotion of the Festival or related activities. |
9. Cancellation and Drop-Out: If the Entrant(s) associated with the Project originally chosen for presentation are unable to attend the Banff World Media Festival, or if the Organizers determine, at their sole discretion, that the Project is unsuitable for presentation, the Organizers reserve the right to cancel its presentation and select an alternative Project from the entry pool. In such an event, no fees, travel reimbursements, or promotional benefits shall be owed to the original Entrant or Project. |
