Ryan Cooper is an Ojibwe, two spirited, LGBTQ+ Producer from Treaty OneTerritory Peguis First Nation. Ryan is a graduate of the National Screen Institute's CBC New Indigenous Voices program. The NSI Indigidocs program where he had the opportunity to produce an award-winning short documentary that went on to be programmed in festivals all around the globe some of which include The Slamdance Film Festival, the Vancouver International film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival content Corner with Telefilm’s Not so Short on Talent program. The film When The Children Left can now be found on CBC Gem.

Ryan created two web series, one titled Daybreak People that aired on BellMTS Fibe TV1, and the imagineNative/APTN pitch winning seriesiNdigiThreads. Ryan is producing two TELEFILM TALENT TO WATCH projects. One of which is INdigiThreads and the other being the selected CFC Netflix accelerator program series Alter Boys. Alter Boys is set to shoot in late summer of 2021. Ryan was also named as one of Playback’s Tento Watch for 2021. Ryan for three years running was chosen for Netflix-BANFF Diversity of Voices and is a recipient of the IPF producer Bursary. And most recently Ryan is one of 2021 WarnerMedia Access x Canadian Academy Writers Program participants.

Ryan has multiple projects in various genres and formats in development from many broadcasters across Canada. Ryan is focused on producing and writing contemporary, cultural & modern stories in an authentic way through scripted and factual storytelling.

At the Banff Media Festival, we met with Netflix and took a ride up Sulphur Mountain on the gondola. That’s where we made the pitch.
