Barbara Williams became CBC’s Executive Vice-President English Services, on May 1, 2019.
In this role, Barbara oversees all of the public broadcaster’s English language programming services, including CBC News and CBC Newsworld, CBC Television, CBC Radio One, CBC Music, CBC Sports, CBC Kids, CBC Gem, CBC Listen, the Documentary Channel, as well as the other digital platforms and mobile services.
Prior to her appointment, Barbara was the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Corus Entertainment, where she oversaw all strategic and operational aspects of Corus’ content across all television, radio and digital properties.
Previously, Barbara held several positions with Shaw Media, most recently as the Executive Vice-President and the President responsible for the business strategy for the business media unit including Global Television Network and 19 specialty channels. She also served as Senior Vice-President, Content. Barbara’s additional broadcast media experience includes serving as Executive Vice-President, Content with Canwest Broadcasting, as Senior Vice-President, Programming and Production with CanWest MediaWorks, as VP and General Manager, with Quebecor Media’s TORONTO 1 channel, and as Senior Vice-President, Lifestyle Programming with Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting.
Barbara sits on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Film Centre, and is a past member of the Boards of Canada’s Walk of Fame, the Banff World Media Festival and Canadian Women in Communications.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Science in Telecommunications from Syracuse University in New York.
