Igal Svet is Senior Director, Development for the National Geographic Channel. Based in New York, Svet is responsible for ideation and development of original premium content for the global channel.
Svet is the main point of contact with the production community in New York and has been at the forefront of National Geographic’s pivot to premium content. National Geographic’s slate of sweeping original programs includes Mars and Story of God with Morgan Freeman — two of the highest-launching series in the history of the network, as well as the highly-anticipated One Strange Rock. Since the pivot towards premium the National Geographic has released a robust slate of feature documentaries including the Oscar short-listed LA 92 and Jane as well as Before the Flood, which was watched by 63 million people in the first two weeks of its release.
Prior to National Geographic, he served as Vice President, Development at the Miami-based production company, 2C Media and as Producer on several hit cable network series including History Channel’s Top Gear and truTV’s Full Throttle Saloon. Svet also played an integral role at BBC Worldwide and Reveille LLC, in Los Angeles, where he developed, packaged and sold non-fiction projects.
