Sean Buckley is a film and television veteran, and the driving force behind Buck Productions, a leading content creation company successful in feature films, television, branded content, documentaries, and commercials. As owner and CEO of one of the most diverse production houses in North America for more than 20 years, Buckley has cultivated a concept-first culture where ideas and end products are paramount.
Throughout his career Buckley has forged strong relationships with top-notched production partners and distribution companies, producing top-quality feature films. Dramatic titles include A Beginner’s Guide to Endings with Harvey Keitel, Defendor with Woody Harrelson, and Toilet, a co-production with Japan’s Paradise Cafe through Film Finances Inc. Comedic features include Coopers’ Camera with Jason Jones and Samantha Bee, Running Mates with Henry Winkler, and Servitude with Dave Foley. Buck’s latest features are theofficial 2014 TIFF selection Wet Bum, Pretend We’re Kissing with Zoe Kravitz, and documentary Stay Awhile.
Buckley’s latest film, Milton’s Secret, premiered opening weekend at VIFF 2016. The film based on the book by renowned spiritual author Eckhart Tolle, starred Donald Sutherland, Michelle Rodriguez and newcomer William Ainscough as Milton.
With an impressive background in branded content projects, Buckley also oversaw first-to-market formats such as The 2008 Mitsubishi City Chase (CBC), the first branded content television series for a major Canadian network, and the web series Canada’s Best Beauty Talent forRogers MediaandL’Oreal Paris, hosted by Supermodel Coco Rocha. In addition, Sean helped create branded content like MTV’s McMorris and McMorris (Red Bull), Our Family Vacation (Canon) and The Project: Guatamala (Group M). In 2016, Sean collaborated with HuffPost Canada Studios/AOL on two branded web series: Two Minutes to Transform and Like a Tourist.
Most recently, Buckley joined The Coup Company as a partner and collaborates with them on all projects including Wolfcop, the upcoming Wolfcop 2 and CBC Comedy Coup's inaugural production - “HumanTown” - which made its primetime debut in 2016.
Buck has been recognized as recipient of multiple Gemini, Genie, Canadian Screen Award, Director’s Guild of Canada nominations and a number of other film, television and commercial awards as well as numerous film premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival and many other acclaimed international festivals. Buck Productions has been named on Realscreen’s Global 100 list of independent production companies.
