Speaker Doug Smith
Doug Smith became CBC/Radio-Canada’s Executive Vice-President of CBC on February 2, 2026.
In this role, he oversees all aspects of the public broadcaster’s English-language business including: setting the strategy, content, budgets, audience growth, marketing and communications, distribution platforms, and public service mandate.
Doug draws on over thirty years of experience in content strategy and digital transformation coming to CBC/Radio-Canada. He served most recently as Senior Vice-President, Streaming and Content Licensing (Canada) at Paramount. In that position, he led Canadian operations for Paramount+ and Pluto TV, overseeing content strategy, subscription and advertising models, digital rights, regulatory affairs and national business performance. Doug also led early streaming expansion in Canada, focusing on global strategy and cross-platform innovation.
His great strengths in business management and change management are critical skills for the ever-evolving landscape the public broadcaster operates in. Throughout his career at Alliance Atlantis and Paramount, Doug has had much experience navigating radical industry disruption and unprecedented digital advancements across Canada and worldwide.
Doug’s deep understanding of audiences ensures CBC is well positioned to meet Canadians where they are, on their platform of choice with the content they want.
